Spring 2009 Newsletter (Page 2) |

Donations Starting with this newsletter, we will be focusing on one area of the house that is in need of donations for repair, replacement, etc. This year, the sliding doors in the dining room and the computer room doors to the deck are the topic of our focused campaign for donations. Both of these doors are in need of repair/replacement due to the amount of air that leaks in during the winter. In the spring, summer, and fall, insects easily enter through these doors and end up all over the house. (See pictures below). If you are interested in donating to help replace these two sets of doors, please send any amount along with your Alumni Dues. Thanks!
From the President Spring has come and another semester is already half-way completed. We activated 5 new members from the fall semester and have begun a pilot program for new members during the spring semesters. This program is quite different compared to traditional fall programs. New members are not required to live in the house during this first semester. Instead, they meet twice a week and do everything the fall new members do except for new member socials and serenades. Instead of having detail projects, these new members are learning how to do each house job. In the long run, this will make them more effective members once they move into the house the following semester. Gemini has two new members who have joined as a part of this pilot program this semester. They are Alex Brown of Charlottesville, Virginia majoring in Flight Management and Dalton Brown of Denver, Indiana with no major currently declared.
From the Alumni President As you are well aware, 2008-2009 has been a difficult economic time for many. However, because Gemini has remained true to its cooperative roots of working together to reduce expenses, we believe the house will flourish in these difficult times. In fact, we believe it has already begun to show with a very large January rush. The guys prepared the house well, and did a great job representing Gemini to potential new members. Also, we would like to thank the alumni that were able to attend the Rush weekends back in January. We received several positive comments from potential members, and parents, and feel this was a great help for rush. The two $500 scholarship awards that Gemini is offering this semester are a great recruiting tool, as well as a great opportunity for deserving students. Starting in the fall of 2008, we have rewarded house members with small cash awards for grades above a 3.0, and an additional award to the highest GPA in the house. Your continued donations have made these scholarships possible, and we look forward to continuing these programs in 2010. Overall, the Gemini actives are excited about their successful spring recruitment campaign and remain focused on having 40 men living in the house in the fall. Unfortunately, for a few men they are graduating in the midst of a very difficult job market. If anyone knows of potential job openings within their prospective companies, please contact Keith, Noah, Ben, or Carl as I’m sure they would be grateful.
